Hikkaduwa’s Bird Lake and the Bentota Lagoon are offering excellent windsurfing conditions with light wind cruising. Negombo is more suitable for windsurfers of grade 4 and up. The shore break there in the months January – March requires some experience. On good days you’ll get up to 6 beaufort with an average of 4-5 beaufort.

The main spot for kite surfing in Sri Lanka is in Negombo. One of the factors for this are the nearby factories of NORTH KITEBOARDING, FAITH KITEBOARDING or and CARVED.
Here we have perfect wind conditions for kite boarding.
Especially in the months January – March when the NW trade winds will provide the necessary power. The shore break is nothing to write home about, so ideal for beginners, too.
In May to August the wind shifts to the SW direction with higher shore break and high sea. More for advanced and professional kiters.
Over a length of 5 km, the beach of Negombo is wide enough for take off and landing.
