Sri Lanka Itinerary Suggestion: Discover Sri Lanka Tour
Our 12 Day Sri Lanka Tour suggestion includes ancient cities, Sri Lanka's North Coast, East Coast, the Central Hill Country, the South/South West Coast and 4 National Parks. From the airport or Negombo head for Anuradhapura, the first capital, where centuries of kings built ever-larger monuments to the Buddha. After a scenic drive to Jaffna, the cultural capital of Tamils on Sri Lanka's North-Coast. The locals of Jaffna are wonderful and friendly people and making a trip to this beautiful part of Sri Lanka should be a priority on anyone’s travel plan. From there head over to Trincomalee, the main city of the East Coast. The Trincomalee district is known for it's cultural sights and some of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka. The crystal clear water is ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving. Coming from Trinco, the next stop should the ancient capital of Polonnaruwa, followed by the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and the cave temples of Dambulla. All of them UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From there the route leads you to Sri Lanka's 'cultural capital' Kandy with its famous Temple of the Tooth and the Royal Botanical Garden. On your way to Nuwara Eliya, home of the Ceylon Tea, you will pass lush tea plantations, waterfalls, tea factories, and dramatic viewpoints. Now cut through the country to reach the Gem City of Ratnapura.For the Sinharaja Rainforest you should reserve at least 2 days. Cars are not allowed inside the forest reserve, but trekking guides can be hired at the entrance. Mirissa Beach on the South Coast is a well-known surf destination and offers excellent swimming and snorkelling within the protetion of the reef. From here head back to the airport or Negombo on the coastal road passing some of the most outstanding beaches of Sri Lanka. Stop wherever you like, historical Galle and nearby Unawatuna Beach as well as Hikkaduwa and Bentota are our top picks.If you still have time left, a Colombo sightseeing / shopping tour is highly recommended.
