SRI LANKA SAILING - DIVING - EXPERIENCES TOUR / SOUTH COAST* (12 days / 11 nights)

South Coast Itinerary:

DAY 01
Arrive at Colombo airport and transfer to your beach hotel in Negombo (15 minutes from the airport) to acclimatize. Relax at the pool/beach.
Dinner and overnight at the Camelot Beach Hotel, Negombo.

DAY 02
After breakfast leave for a scenic drive along the the west- and south coast with destination Mirissa. En-route visit a turtle hatchery.
On arrival at the Mirissa Fishing Harbor board your sailing catamaran (max. 8 passengers) and set sail for Tallala beach. Enjoy the unspoiled beach where colorful fish swarms can be seen directly through the crystal clear waters (snorkeling equipment will be provided).
Sunset dinner served on-board.

DAY 03
Breakfast on board as the crew sets sail to search for the Sperm whales. There is also a pretty good chance of Blue whale sighting. Around 26 different species of whales traversing this region and this includes the well loved dolphins.
Lunch served on Snake Island in Weligama Bay. Sunset dinner served onboard.

DAY 4
Breakfast on board. The guests may encounter more whales en route to Galle. Arrive at Jungle Beach for lunch. Enjoy sun bathing, swimming, snorkeling or stand up paddling (SUP).
Dinner on-board near Jungle Beach.

DAY 5
Breakfast on board. Enjoy swimming, snorkeling or stand up paddle-boarding while the chef prepares the lunch. The sailing cruise ends at 1 pm.
Transfer to Taprobane Beach House in Unawatuna. Afternoon free to stroll around Unawatuna village and its beaches.
Dinner and overnight at the Taprobane Beach House, Unawatuna.

DAY 6
Breakfast at the hotel and in the morning opportunity to snorkel or scuba diving** in Unawatuna. Afternoon visit the historical Dutch Fort in Galle and the street markets which overflow with high piled fruit and vegetables, seafood, colorful fabrics, and deliciously fragrant spices.
Dinner and overnight at the Taprobane Beach House, Unawatuna.

DAY 7
Breakfast at hotel and rest of the day free for exploration, sun bathing, snorkeling or diving**.
Dinner and overnight at the Taprobane Beach House, Unawatuna.

DAY 8
After breakfast another scenic coastal drive to Yala. Afternoon safari at the Yala national park.
Dinner and overnight at the Hibiscus Garden Hotel, Yala.

DAY 9
After breakfast leave for Ella in the hill country. Visit the Rawana waterfall, the famous Nine Arch bridge and Ella Gap.
Dinner and overnight at the Flower Garden Resort , Ella.

Day 10
After breakfast visit little Adams peak, tea plantations and enjoy some original Ceylon tea tasting. Leave for Nuwara Eliya by train, considered one of the most fascinating rail journeys in the world.
For those interested, a visit to the local fruit & vegetable market in Nuwara Eliya is highly recommend.
Dinner and overnight at the Heaven Seven Hotel, Nuwara Eliya.

Day 11
Early morning visit to the Horton Plains national park, afterwards leave for Kandy. In the afternoon visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and enjoy a cultural show with traditional dancing.

Day 12
After breakfast leave for the airport.

East Coast Itinerary:

DAY 01
Arrive at Colombo airport and transfer to your beach hotel in Negombo (15 minutes from the airport) to acclimatize. Relax at the pool/beach.
Dinner and overnight at the Camelot Beach Hotel, Negombo.

DAY 02
After breakfast leave for Trincomalee on Sri Lanka's East Coast. Trincomalee is an important port city since ancient times. Set on a peninsula, Fort Frederick was built initially by the Portuguese and captured in 1639 by the Dutch. Within its grounds, the grand Koneswaram Temple stands on Swami Rock cliff, a popular vantage point for blue-whale watching.
In the afternoon board your sailing catamaran (max. 8 passengers) and set sail for a sunset cruise and dinner on board.
Night anchorage is in Back Bay, below the Koneswaram Temple.

DAY 03
Breakfast on board as the crew sets sail to search for the Sperm whales and dolphins.
Lunch on board and continue to sail toward Lankapatuna for dinner and night anchorage.

DAY 04
After breakfast on board, you can make the most out of the calm waters by swimming, snorkeling (snorkeling equipment will be provided) and/or stand up paddling (SUP). Lunch will be served on the way back to Dutch Bay in Trinco. Disembark at the public beach at 1 pm and visit Fort Frederick.
Transfer to the Anantama Hotel.
Overnight at the Anantama Hotel, Trincomalee.

DAY 05 & 06
Time for exploration of the outstanding beaches around Trincomalee, like Nilaveli, a small fishing village. Facing the Pigeon Island Marine National Park and it is just perfect for snorkeling or scuba diving**. Bright corals and colorful fish swarms can be seen directly through the crystal clear waters.
Overnight at the Anantama Hotel, Trincomalee.

DAY 07
After you checked into your hotel in Sigiriya, it's time for a jeep safari at the Minneriya National Park. Elephants gathered here are numbering around 150-200. Some reports account number of elephants to as high as 700. They migrate here from Wasgamuwa National Park and benefit from food and shelter of the park's forest.
Overnight at the Kassapa Lions Rock Hotel, Sigiriya.

DAY 08
In the morning it's time to visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Built on top of a mountain, Sigiriya was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982. It's Asia's best-preserved city of the first millennium, showing complex urban planning around the base of the rock, and sheer bravado combined with sophisticated engineering and irrigation skills in the palace perched on the summit.
An afternoon visit to the Hiriwaduna Village gives you an insight into the rural Sri Lankan life and the traditional cottage industries.
Overnight at the Kassapa Lions Rock Hotel, Sigiriya.

DAY 09
On the way to Kandy, the 'cultural capital' of Sri Lanka, you'll visit the Dambulla Cave Temples. Dambulla is a complex of five cave temples filled with Buddhist murals and many Buddha statues. The first cave is filled with the 47-foot-long recumbent image of the meditating Buddha. In the second cave, there are 150 beautifully carved and preserved gilded statues of gods and Buddhas. The rock ceilings are painted in brilliantly preserved and intricately detailed patterns and images of the holy figures.
An original Ayurvedic Spice Garden is the next stop, followed by the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy.

DAY 10
A scenic drive through the hill country, passing lush tea plantations and spectacular viewpoints, brings you to Kitulgala. Here you can go white water rafting or explore a rainforest on bicycle or by foot.

DAY 11
On the way to Colombo, visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, accounting for around fifty elephants at any given time. Most of these elephants were orphans who lost their parents to poachers or as a result of simply being left behind by their herd. Many were badly wounded when found, like a female elephant who had lost her eyesight as a result of a poacher's gunshot.
After you checked into your Colombo Hotel, embark on a Colombo sightseeing/shopping tour. Colombo is the commercial and political heart of Sri Lanka. A fascinating mix of old and new, with a central cluster of high-rise office blocks and hotels overshadowing red-tiled colonial-era buildings and sprawling street markets which overflow with high piled fruit and vegetables, colorful silks and cottons, and deliciously fragrant spices.

DAY 12
After breakfast leave for the airport or your next destination in Sri Lanka. End of tour.
