Calamander Beach Resort (former Unawatuna Beach Resort) is a beach-front, family friendly resort in Unawatuna. The resort is all about being outdoors: sun bathing on one the beache, a game of beach volleyball or a yoga class, snorkelling or scuba diving in the cristal clear Indian Ocean, lounging at the swimming pool, free kayakin or dining al-fresco at one of the four beach restaurants.
All rooms at this beach resort have balconies or a terrace and en-suite bathrooms. Most of rooms offer a partial sea view, a garden view, or a mountain view over the lush Rumassala Hills.
The vermillion coloured swimming pool, the colour of the Unawatuna sunset, shimmers with beautiful Italian mosaic tiles. The Turtle Pool is inlaid with a glittering mosaic turtle and the Blu Pool with its glass front sits directly on the Unawatuna Beach.
The main restaurant was inspired by an ancient ‘Magul Maduwa’ (Royal Audience Hall in the former capital of Kandy), a magnificent open columned structure with a 60 foot long timber roof, built in 1783.
Unawatuna beach, next to the historical town of Galle on the island’s south coast, is rated one of the best beaches in the world.
