Thambapanni Retreat - Unawatuna, Sri Lanka

The name Thambapanni originates from the Mahawansa (history of Sri Lanka). Where traditionally and conventionally the origins of the Sinhala race are traced to Vijaya. It is stated that "When those who were commanded by Vijaya landed here from their ships and wearied, resting their hands on the ground. Since their hand was reddened by touching the dust of the red earth, this island was named Thambapanni (copper-colored earth).
