Hotel Topaz

Overview

Built in 1976, Hotel Topaz is just as lovely as its namesake gemstone of which some of the premier examples are mined in Sri Lanka. The hill capital of Kandy is the last royal stronghold in the country and Hotel Topaz is considered its crowning jewel, a residence fit for even royalty. Nestled amidst lush tropical greenery, surrounded by the distinctive Knuckles Mountain range and Bible Rock, enveloped in the cool winds blowing through the mountains, Hotel Topaz offers a true Sri Lankan experience to its guests.

Hotel Topaz is classified as a three star luxury hotel. Its recent refurbishment included a conceptual redesign so now the entire fourth floor has been converted into honeymoon suites and renamed The Rose Floor. The Rose Floor is the most romantic experience one can have in a hotel; the décor, the stationary and even the bedtime chocolates have all been carefully selected to promote an atmosphere of intimacy. The luxuriously large king size beds come with a pillow menu that allows you to choose the type of pillow (hard, soft, hypoallergenic) that you prefer.

To help honeymooners enjoy their time at Hotel Topaz, a special honeymoon package has been developed that features the Jacuzzi at the spa. Marquee dinners, either poolside or at the rooftop where the wonderful view can be properly admired, are also a hotel specialty. Honeymooners can even get a discount on their stay at The Rose Floor if they present their wedding card.

The second and third floors are the Green Floors, themed around environmental friendliness and the beautiful outdoor views. Guests can even choose if they’d prefer a ‘mountain view’ for maximum exposure to nature, or a ‘city view’ so they can enjoy the sight of the city lights twinkling at dusk. The rooms are equipped with double beds and come in four color schemes for the guest to choose from.

The first floor, the Water Lily Floor, is themed around Sri Lanka’s national flower. The corridors boast ponds full of water lilies, illuminated by antique brass oil lamps, and each room has not only water lily-themed stationery but also a fish tank with water lilies to infuse the room with its calming beauty. The flowers are scentless so guests need not fear being drenched in the perfume of the petals and can simply enjoy the loveliness of the blooms. Every room comes with a private garden, equipped with a small pond of water lilies, which is the perfect setting for high tea or breakfast.
